Running Laps

In between dinner and bedtime, lots of evenings the kids go outside and partner up to get some exercise around the yard! They are cute to watch as they make laps around the house with their buddies.

Interestingly enough, I've found that using the sidewalk around the house works as a very effective punishment for this boy, who would I think just prefer to eat candy, or actually anything that he can touch, all day every day! He and I have had some lap-running sessions, and so when we go outside after dinner with everybody, most of the kids want to run around. Not him. "No, Tia, we all just want to walk. And not fast." No worries...I'll whip him into shape. :)

My partner - this time last year we were working SO hard on walking with him. (Almost 3 years old, he has Cerebal Palsy, and so walking was definitely more of a challenge.) Now, although he may be clumsiest boy you can imagine, he runs around keeping up with everybody else.

Someone had to sit out. Yet even in time-out, there's a smile for the camera. Well-trained.

...and he's free!

Race time! Pretty good line-up, huh?
I think we may be raising a house full of future track-stars, IF I can some day get them to run a full lap without stopping to play with the hose. Will keep y'all posted on how training goes.

A Day In The Life...

Newborn #2 here turned 1 month old yesterday!

When newborn #2 arrived 2 days after I did, she was jokingly assigned as "my" baby...well, lucky me! We've had some quaaaaaality time together bonding at about 4am during this first month, and it's been fun watching her grow. Here we'll take a glimpse at the wild and crazy day to day activities of our new baby...the excitement may be too much for some to handle.

Wakes up happy!

Bath time...not the biggest fan

Drying off

And getting pretty.

Dressed and ready for the day's many activities

learning Spanish - she  may be the only child at the house who can't speak Spanish better than I can. yet.

hanging with her posse

...and a bunch of bigger kids who love her.

And along with drinking a bottle and pooping in her pants, those are the biggest highlights.
Night time!
"What the - I have to sleep in here instead of back in your bunk??"

Buenas Noches!

Weekend Fun

So. Working at the Baby Home, (where I live,) has been wonderful as always, but I always love a little House 2 time with the big kids, too! Although I make it over to House 2 a couple of times a week, my partner-in-crime, Elena, (another volunteer who works at House 2,) and I have come up with a little schedule for me to spend time with the older dozen on the weekends. I get to take three out each weekend for a little extra attention - we started this weekend, and I think it's going to be good.

Sibs at Casa 2

We were picking up dinner, when the oldest of the bunch asked me, "Remember how you said we were going to celebrate my birthday when you got back??" Whoops...No, I definitely did not remember saying that! (She turned 6 in August.) So we got dessert and considered it a month-late birthday party. :)

Heyyyyy Wahoos, doesn't every good UVA fan end the day with The Good Ol' Song? They did.

Babies Everywhere!

We've got our hands full with babies right now! Here are our smiley, squealing, triplets!

And here are our old triplets with our new "triplets!" (Not really...just 3 newborns who are going to be raised here like triplets!)

Casa 2 Time

These 2 are our oldest at the Baby Home, and it's likely that they'll move on up to House 2 (for our older children,) by the end of the year. Because these two may not transition quite as easily as some of our others have, we're getting their feet wet now with regular visits down the road to Casa 2.

familiar faces

This week we went over on September 21st, which is a big holiday in Bolivia - It's the equivalent of Valentine's Day, combined with Friendship Day, Student Day, 1st Day of Spring, Doctor Day, etc, etc, etc...basically every holiday wrapped into one! Needless to say, when we arrived, the kids were pretty pumped up with all of the goodies they had gotten at school that day!

Coloring with the big girls

These two are the same age and looked like sisters today with their matching hair-do's! Note - girl on the left refused to smile after having to say "Thank you" at snack time. Life is so hard. Also note the corn on the cob in the pic. Sweet.
We leave right before bedtime, when our doorman here sees us off. :)

It Takes A Village

With so many babies, there's nothing cuter than watching little ones help look out for even littler ones!

Being a buddy
The 3 year old B on the left here has turned into such a little helper - especially with Baby J. She loves bringing her toys, patting her on the back, and yesterday, she overheard me telling the toddler that I was going to bring her some different pants. Before I could look up, B was tugging on my shorts with a pair of pants in hand. Rockstar. LOVE HER.

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday

Another Sunday morning!

Obviously excited about church.

Sisters cheesin' it

Fake smile! Love that! (This is the little girl from the time-out post earlier this week. She repented this morning.)

Baby J came to church with us, too! Had a ball, and a neat story: in the middle of the service, one of my friends from church, Carla, ran up to me and gave her a big hug...Carla is a physical therapist who has worked with Baby J for the year that she lived in the nutrition center. She was doing a year-long rotation but a few weeks ago went into work to find out that her favorite patient had been sent to a childrens' home. She had been so sad that she didn't get to say goodbye, so imagine how excited and surprised these two were upon reuniting this morning! Really fun.

Just realized that this morning, of my gang, for the first time, there was only ONE boy with us. Good thing he's such a lady's man.
How YOU doin?

Playtime after lunch

These three pics are a sequence of events:
Running... give a hug...
...or just to tackle her buddy.

Couldn't get enough of this cutie - in her "vestido con POLLOS!!!!" (chicken dress.)

My 7 dwarves - including one pretty lucky boy, huh? Lots of cuties. He would probably agree when he's not trying to wrestle with them all.
Happy Sunday
