Hospital Update

Annnnd another one joins the troops.
Yep...as of Tuesday, our baby on the left has a new roommate...

Our 5-year-old girlie from House 2! (Kind of ironic, as the baby happens to be this child's Mini-Me. They both have SO MUCH HAIR!) :)
She was pretty pumped to show off her catheter sites...in fact, she's become fast-friends with a 6-year-old across the hall as the two compared their medical accessories. Our big girl is already on the mend, as is the baby boy mentioned in the previous post.

This little one's still got some improving to do.
Hope these babies are home FAST!

Sick Babies

On Thursday we had two of our smallest admitted to the local children's hospital for some respiratory issues; let's pray that these guys make a turn for the better and come home on Monday!

Nashville represent!

This month, we welcomed a new volunteer to Casa de Amor...and she's another Tennessean!!
Helloooo, Kristin!! (with her fave...Mom, you better get back here to compete for him!)
SO fun having her here, whipping our kids into shape on the soccer field and so much more!

Feliz, feliz, feliz...

...CARNAVALLLLLLL!

Oh yes...that time of year again! The South American equivalent of Mardi Gras is even bigger than what we have in New Orleans. Water wars (balloons and super soakers,) start in January, and the celebrating is definitely still going on this weekend! Last weekend was the city of Cochabamba's big celebration downtown, with an all-day-long parade and spray-foam/water party. It is a crazy fun mess!

The kids made crafts at school:

Kristin, Pauline, Ana, and I downtown during the parades

The all-day-parade consists of a bunch of military groups in dance/costume competitions - some of them are really funny!

lookin' good

Madagascar

Such creativity....haaaaaaa
(When we could see them coming from a block away or so, we really thought they were standing on their heads - it was pretty awesome.)

not-at-all creepy buzz lightyears

our favorites...the dancing american cowboys

whaaaat

spray foam fun
 ...

Another traditional part of carnaval...baby home staff water wars!! hilarious is the only word to describe these episodes. Also, fun fact - i had no idea that adelaida was wearing a spiderman mask until i uploaded this picture just now.

This post dedicated to Carnaval's #1 fan, (obviously.) We missed forcing you to join in on the fun, Doc!!

Sunny Days & Sidewalk Chalk

How's this for brightening up your day?
After a heavy rainy season, we've enjoyed sunny skies this week. The kids love being outside, and we all get cabin fever when everyone is trapped inside of the house. With mud in the baby home yard, we decided to play with sidewalk chalk. The entrance to House 1 has never looked so fine! :)

Playing CSI?

Hoping the sun is here to stay!

Tio Bate

My little (but really way bigger) brother spent his spring break in South America...and I loved every minute of it. Miss you, Bateyboy...dank you for spending the week down here!

Gametime.

Six and seven-year-olds scheming...what's going on?

Just a little Red Rover....pajama style!

What up, playa?

The walk of shame. Heads up, boys. You'll break through the arms of the kindergarten girls next time. (The kindergartener in the background of this picture = surprisingly strong.) :)

"Jed Jlovur, Jed Jlovur...." The English is really coming along!
School day + running around outside = 14 sleepy kiddos when bedtime rolls around. (Makes life at House 2 maybe 30000 times easier for those of us over the age of 7.)

Adoption!

This little chunk came to us at about 4 months old with a history of child abuse...his medical history included broken ribs, seizures, and internal bleeding to name a few. You can check out a little bit more of his story here: http://hogardeamor.blogspot.com/2008/08/and-another-baby.html

Since that time, he has grown into a bright, chipper almost-3-year-old...and he just went home with our very own Tia Maria! I don't think I've seen an adoption yet when the child went SO excitedly with a new parent. Obviously, Tia Maria and her new son go back a ways, and so it's been fun to share the excitement as these two anticipated his homecoming.
Heading Home

Some favorite old pics of this guy over the past year and a half:

Being a punk in his highchair. Always.

Cute little pumpkin

First steps...learning to walk!

The only screamer during the 2009 Christmas photo :)

...though he redeemed himself as one of the cutest shepherds in the nativity!

chunky monkey

Actually making a monkey pose?

Playing with one of his buddies from House 1

What I will miss most...this boy's RUN! He waddles and picks his knees up to his shoulders when he runs...it is absolutely hilarious.

To the new family...we love you both!

House 3 Begins...with TWINS!

The Mitchell Family, (TJ, Tammy, and their daughter, Madison,) moved to Bolivia a few months ago preparing to re-open Casa de Amor's House 3. House 3 is run differently than the first two homes in that it is more of a foster-family setting. This month, the Mitchells welcomed the much-anticipated arrival of twin girls!
Are they not precious?! They came to Casa de Amor after living in the local nutrition center, as one of the twins has undergone cleft lip surgery. She will have an upcoming cleft pallet surgery at some point in the future, as well. For now, both girls are goofy, smiley babies, and the first girl-girl set of twins that Casa de Amor has had!

Casa 3 Grand Opening! :)

And surprise...we just found out that they have a birthday this week! We celebrated the twins' 1st birthday this week...exciting! And if you can't tell, Twin on the left is quite the ham!
 :)

Cake time

Why eat the cake when you can have just as much fun making a mess?

Some of the party guests...I put this up just for the girl in the orange fleece.
Felicidades, Gemelas!
